ABOUT ME
I currently hold the position of Associate Professor at the School of Sciences and Technology, University of Évora, Portugal. I am also a research scientist at the Institute of Earth Sciences, Évora Pole, and I lead (with Luiz Rcha) the Complex Flow Systems Lab.
My previous appointments include Visiting Professor at WU-R, the Netherlands (2000-2008), and Visiting Fellow at the University of Reading, UK (May-September 2001). Furthermore, I served as a Deputy Contact at the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) from 2013 to 2015.
I contribute to the academic community as an associate editor and editorial board member for several Scopus-indexed journals, namely Research on Engineering Structures and Materials, International Journal of Hydromechatronics, Frontiers in Physics, Case Studies in Thermal Engineering, Energies, Fluids, Heliyon, and the International Journal of Exergy. My publications include three books (Springer, 2004 and 2018; UNIL, 2006) and over 100 peer-reviewed articles.
Throughout my career, I have been honored with distinctions and awards (editor of the year, for papers, etc.). I have actively participated in international conferences as a general co-chair, special session chair, and advisory board member. A study coordinated by Stanford University (USA) places me among the top 2% of the most prominent scientists worldwide in my field, for the years 2020 through 2024, as evidenced by my inclusion in both the "Lifetime Scientific Influence Ranking" and the "Annual Scientific Influence Ranking".
